The roots of Paris trace back to around 259 BC, when the Parisii, a Celtic tribe, settled along the Seine. In 52 BC, the Romans conquered the small fishing village and established the Gallo-Roman city of Lutetia. By the fourth century, the city adopted the name Paris, marking the beginning of its evolution into the vibrant capital we know today.
